A-Rival is a well-known manufacturer that, in particular, develops and markets navigation devices, sports watches, action cameras and other technical devices.
Since navigation devices in particular require a high level of expertise, and we think you can trust A-Rival products, we took a close look at the action camera from the manufacturer.
A-Rival Action Cam “aQtion Cam” AQN6, in our opinion, is ideal for beginners and has a very good price / quality ratio!
What else we think about this model, you can learn from this report.
One thing that we always include in our estimate is the scope of supply, which is especially large for this model.
Much more important than the cam set and body are the intrinsic values.
The motion sensor, for example, is exceptional. When this function is activated, the camera records moving objects for one minute and then stops again.
The camera also has 512MB of internal memory, which makes it even more powerful.
Beginners should get along especially well with the A-Rival Action Cam “aQtion Cam” AQN6, while pros should be looking for a GoPro camera.
Design and appearance
We liked the design. While orange tones are not to everyone’s taste, the workmanship and materials are quite durable.
The underwater case looks cheap due to the transparent plastic construction, but according to the manufacturer, it should be waterproof up to 40 meters.
On the back is a 1.5-inch TFT screen with 480 x 240 pixels. To the right and left of the display are various camera menu controls.
The camera measures 65.5 x 38 x 37.5 mm and weighs about 77 grams without battery.
It has a mini HDMI connection and a mini USB 2.0 connection.
Image sensor, resolution and memory
A-Rival Action Cam “aQtion Cam” AQN6 has a built-in 12MP photo sensor, but with it you can only create Full HD 1080P recordings at 30fps.
In the menu you have the option to set other resolution formats. For photo recording, 2 MP / 3 MP / 5 MP / 8 MP and 12 MP are available.
Video codec – H.264, audio codec – ACC. Photos and videos are saved on an external memory card that can be inserted into the camera. Only micro SD cards up to 32 GB in size work here. Before using such a memory card, be sure to properly format it so that it can safely store your photos and videos.
Menu navigation and recording modes
All menu items can be quickly accessed using the buttons on the back of the camera. All the important submenus are simply structured, and in general, things don’t feel too cluttered.
You have a wide range of settings available, including, for example, different recording modes. You can choose between automatic, night, cloudy, rainy or snowy photography mode.
We recommend that you just stay in automatic mode because you can quickly forget to cancel a setting and the camera always automatically enters automatic mode without having to change anything.
Since the last firmware update, there is also an underwater mode. With it, you can create even better images of the underwater world. This mode should be of particular interest to divers and snorkelers.
Then, as mentioned, there is also an automatic recording function for which the A-Rival action camera has a motion sensor and video recording starts within 1 minute as soon as the camera detects movement. We haven’t seen this feature on any other action camera.
Battery and run time
Installed with a 900mAh Li-ion battery, the operating time is about 60-90 minutes, depending on how many pixels or what resolution you shoot.
The battery was placed on the front right next to the lens.
How good is the image quality?
Considering that the camera is so cheap and only has Full HD 1080P resolution and 12 megapixels, it takes pretty good photos and videos.
You can evaluate the quality of the video resolution values as follows:
Full HD 1080P, 1920 x 1080 pixels (25 or 30 fps): very good video quality
720P, 16: 9 recording, 1280 x 720 pixels (50 or 60 fps): good video quality
In addition, even with digital zoom, images do not look very pixelated, but rather sharp.
Lighting conditions do not significantly affect the quality of the recording, but you can adjust the camera accordingly in the menu.
What is a camera for?
Action Cam A-Rival AQN6 is especially suitable for divers, snorkellers and water sports enthusiasts.
Since the camera is also shockproof and dustproof, you can also use it on desert road trips or skiing.
Thanks to the brackets and adhesive strips, it is also possible to expand the applications as needed, whether it is a helmet camera or a drone camera, it is suitable for almost all applications.
We only recommend that you avoid places with particularly high ambient temperatures, as strong heat can damage the electronics of Action Cam A-Rival AQN6.

Whether it’s a dash cam, a dive cam or a helmet cam, the A-Rival action cam is so versatile with its rugged construction and body that it’s definitely worth buying at its current price!
The photo and video quality of the compact action camera is really very good. Plus, the cam has an acceleration sensor, motion detection, and many other features that you don’t see very often at this price point on action cams.
Sometimes functions interfere with each other if they are still activated in the background. For example, after a while, you can turn off the screen, but if the motion sensor is still active, the screen turns on again as soon as it detects movement.
While the recordings are very good and the camera is otherwise quite reliable, we recommend the GoPro 6 or 7 to the pros of you, but amateurs and filmmakers should take a closer look at the A-Rival Actioncam because it has our opinion. for an incredibly good value for money.
