The action camera LYFE-Silver from AEE Technology makes a rather noble impression with its reflective black body and modern architecture. That’s why we took a closer look at this camera.

Among other things, it features a 140-degree wide-angle lens with 4x digital zoom and can shoot at up to 10 frames per second in 4K Ultra HD video resolution. What to consider when buying and whether the camera is suitable for professionals too, you will find out in the next report.

There are many technologies behind the light, compact and sleek camera body, and the hidden lens is barely visible. With this camera, you can take pictures and videos during action-packed adventures like a pro.

Then you can view the recorded photos and videos on the 1.8-inch LCD touch screen or on your smartphone. The powerful action camera has built-in WIFI and Bluetooth, which you can connect to your device using the APP. Here we are talking about smartphones or tablets, both iOS and Android devices are suitable.

Resolution, photo and video quality

Photo test 1Photo test 1

A 16-megapixel 4K photo sensor is installed here, with which you can take beautiful and bright pictures.

The video resolution values are very good, but in our opinion something could be done with the frame rate. Because 10 frames per second is pretty slow. If that doesn’t work for you, you can achieve different video resolutions and therefore higher FPS values, videos still look very good, have a lot of detail and a nice color depth.

Photo test 3Low Light Photo Test

You can set the following values:

  • 4k @ 10fps
  • 2.7K @ 15fps
  • 1440P @ 30fps
  • 1080P @ 60fps
  • 720P @ 120fps
  • 480P @ 240fps

Photos and videos look very good, but low frame rates indicate an outdated chipset and there are much better microelectronics solutions out there right now. However, the grunt is high, as the action camera is extremely cheap!

I’ve always shot at 1440p and 30fps, so you get the most beautiful, good quality videos that still deliver fluid and dynamic images.

Various modes

You can select Burst, Single, and Continuous for stills, and videos can be recorded in both normal and time-lapse and time-lapse modes. The latter only works at low resolutions due to the frame rate.

Menu navigation

Otherwise, as already mentioned, you can simply choose a different picture and video resolution. Compared to other cameras of this design, the AEE Technology LYFE Silver Action camera doesn’t have a particularly large number of modes and settings, but that’s okay for this price. Menu navigation is pretty elegant.

Battery and recording time

Installed 1050 mAh lithium-ion battery, rechargeable. You can take up to 90 minutes of photos and videos with him. There is a small drawback, however, because the manufacturer does not currently offer replacement batteries, which worries us a little because at some point the battery performance drops with age and you still have to get a replacement battery. If this is not possible, the camera can unfortunately be thrown away.

Also, it is not possible to extend the runtime with a second battery if the power is used up, you need to charge the action camera and you will no longer be able to shoot or take pictures.

scope of delivery

scope of delivery

The scope of supply is a bit scarce compared to other cams in this price range. Sufficient for beginners, of course, because there is a detachable deep-sea housing and various brackets are included.

Pros and cons

Let’s cite some hard facts for and against this camera.Of course, there are some critical points that can be put into perspective due to the extremely low price.

  • Beautiful 4K videos with depth of field and rich color depth
  • Photo sensor has 16 megapixels
  • Several excellent recording modes for the pros among you
  • Robust case with attractive modern design
  • The AEE brand is quite popular in the United States, the products are expensive.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth function – Android and iOS devices can be paired with the camera
  • The built-in 140 degree wide-angle lens has 4x digital zoom.
  • For beginners, advanced and professionals

  • Only English manual included
  • With 4k video resolution, the maximum frame rate is only 10 frames per second.
  • Currently, the manufacturer does not offer spare batteries for this model, which could be replaced and significantly increase the life of the action camera.

Aee conclusion

However, it is possible that other models will exceed your price expectations. In this case, the AEE action camera is quite suitable for private use. Professionals can work with it, but it is worth looking for a more expensive model for long-term use.

Meanwhile, there are also much newer photo sensor chipsets out there, so we think 10fps at 4K is too little. Remember that we have already tested cameras that transfer 60 images in 4K, for example the SJCAM SJ8 Pro, which only has 12 megapixels, but one of the latest chipsets, the Ambarella H22 chipset, costs about the same.

We loved the AEE LYFE Silver camera despite a few things we had to complain about. Price and appearance, as well as high quality and sharp photos, make the photographer’s heart beat faster.

Comparable to other action cameras?

GoPro is definitely the leader in the action camera market, which is why we always compare the quality of the cameras to the products of this brand. We do the same with drones and DJI.

In addition to the GoPro 3, GoPro 4 Hero, and Hero 5 and 6, there is now also a GoPro Hero 7 on the market, which we thoroughly tested.

The cheap GoPro action camera we tested is the GoPro 3. It really doesn’t compare to the LYFE Silver Cam from AEE Technology as the GoPro 3 costs many times more.

On the outside, they both make an equally high-quality impression, but in the end, the intrinsic values matter, and GoPro is way ahead. Only the frame rate and video resolution are significantly better. With the GoPro 3, 4K video not only looks much better, but images are recorded in this resolution at frame rates up to 30 frames per second.

If you compare the AEE Technology LYFE Silver Action Cam to a camera in a similar price range, it performs very well.

A slightly more expensive action camera, which costs only € 20 more, is the Apeman action camera with WIFI, 20MP photo sensor. It delivers 30fps at 4K resolution and is quite popular. Over 1000 reviews on Amazon speak for themselves. The battery is also replaceable and the case is waterproof up to 30 meters. Here is the Apeman camera test report. In addition, it has a number of recording modes and functions that AEE’s LYFE Silver camera lacks.
