The Aldi drone is an entry-level drone at a low price with a large supply. The drone is very simple, compact and weighs only 160 grams.

In addition to the drone, there is, of course, a remote control with a mobile phone holder and an app. In addition, an 8GB SD card for the drone, a battery and charger, replaceable rotor blades, a mini USB charging cable for the drone and a three-year manufacturer’s warranty.

There’s a lot on offer here for € 50 and the drone is also impressive against rivals like the Syma X5C.

But about this in the test report.

In the following video review, we will show you how the drone works in practice:

The most important technical features are briefly described here:

  • Camera: Photo 2MP, resolution 1280x720px
  • Video resolution: 1280 × 720 with a video bit rate of approximately 12.25 Mbps
  • Range 30 to 50 meters (remote control)
  • Image transmission distance of 30 meters – no interference
  • 3.7 Volt / 1100 mAh Battery – Lithium Polymer
  • Flight time: 8-10 minutes
  • Charging time: two hours
  • Dimensions: 285 x 275 x 60mm (unfolded)

Photo and video quality

The photo and video quality of this camera certainly cannot be compared to more expensive drones and, in my opinion, this drone’s only weak point.

The video recordings have a resolution of 1280×720 pixels and a data transfer rate (12 Mbps).

However, taking pictures with this camera is nowhere near as beautiful as with models from the higher price range.

For me, this is the most obvious disadvantage of this drone. Note that this is an entry-level drone priced at just under € 50.

The camera must also be rotated manually and cannot be tilted in mid-air.

The drone has no gimbal and no electronic image stabilization, so videos will always be a little shaky. It is best to fly this quadcopter with or without light winds to get the best results.

Flight times and features

Flight time of 10 minutes is an average for this price range. But I would like to point out that you can buy spare batteries on the manufacturer’s website from Maginon and theoretically reach a flight time of 35 to 40 minutes with three replaceable batteries for 30 euros. The only negative is the long charging time – two hours.

There are very few functions, including an inoperative return-to-home system, which is due to the fact that the copter does not have GPS and, therefore, cannot determine its location.

When using the Return to Home function, the drone will simply land anywhere within a 10 to 15 meter radius. The same, of course, applies to a very weak battery before the aircraft makes an emergency landing.

Then there is the headless mode, in which the drone always controls itself the same no matter which direction the nose of the drone is. This is good, especially for newbies this drone is for, as it is much easier to handle the controls if you have little or no drone flying experience.

There is also an “art function” in which the drone does somersaults in the air. It works well and looks nice. The drone loses very little height, and for this small insert, a height of two to three meters is enough.

The drone is very easy to operate. The remote control remains simple, and the aircraft’s position in the air can be adjusted very easily using the so-called trim buttons.Maginon remote control

In the wind, the drone can have its own problems, which, of course, translates into reduced battery life in bad weather. Despite its lightness, the drone flies very well upwind.

However, you should familiarize yourself with the appendix to the manual, as in some cases the drone does not automatically connect to the remote control.

In this case, you need to enter the code on the remote control using the joystick so that both devices can be connected to each other. If you have successfully paired the operation with the drone, the LEDs on the drone are on continuously.

The range can also be seen again in the test video on YouTube or above in the text. The manufacturer indicates a range of about 30 meters. However, in the test, you can drive 50 meters on level ground, and maybe even one, two, or even three meters more.

On the other hand, the live image of the app on the smartphone is affected by interference, and it should also be at a distance of about 30 meters. In practice, things went a little further, but not to remote control of the drone.

Also, in some cases, the drone may not want to connect to the smartphone. Then you need to deactivate the mobile data of the mobile phone or go to airplane mode, reactivate the WLAN to re-establish the connection.

Pros and cons

  • Good value for money
  • Large scope of delivery (SD card 8 GB, USB cable, batteries, remote control)
  • Stable and understandable application
  • compact and lightweight

This is offset by the following disadvantages:

  • HD video recording
  • No image stabilization
  • No GPS on board

A drone is worth considering for anyone who isn’t sure if a drones are right for them, and of course anyone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on a drone. The scope of delivery is very extensive – 50 euros. You can, so to speak, unpack the drone and fly with it after the battery is charged.

Despite the poor records, it is a good drone for its price and slightly better than the competition in this price range. Those who prefer to fly rather than shoot film are advised to choose this model.
