Overall rating 4.5 / 5

The Braun Champion 4k II ActionCam is an inexpensive action camera in the low to mid-range price segment, which has a 16MP Sony camera sensor instead of 8MP compared to the previous model.

Full HD is possible at up to 60fps and the wide-angle lens has a 170-degree angle, which is also an improvement over the Braun Champion 4K.

Other technical characteristics

The camera offers simple and interesting recording functions. In the menu, you can choose time-lapse recording, time-lapse recording, or loop recording. Photos and videos are stored on a microSDHC card, which can be up to 64GB.

The built-in Image Stabilizer calculates possible image errors and ensures that you can create photos with incredibly sharp quality. During leisure activities such as cycling, motorcycle or climbing, taking photos can repeatedly result in blur and blurred images if a stabilizer has not been integrated into the system.

If you look at the back of the action camera, you will see a 2-inch TFT screen where you can view the recordings. It is also possible to connect the camera to your smartphone.

For this, Wi-Fi is provided, which establishes a connection between the camera and the smartphone within a radius of up to 20 meters. Compared to other ActionCams, this is good. There are models in which the WiFi connection only extends 5-10 meters, and then the connection is dropped.

To use the app, you just need to scan the bottom of the package with a barcode scanner and then install the pop-up app.

The recording time is 70 to 90 minutes. Depending on whether you are using Wi-Fi and which video features are active, the actual amount of time you can shoot may differ from this time.

However, the 900mAh Li-ion battery is replaceable. We strongly recommend that you buy one or two replacement batteries. There is nothing more annoying than when the ActionCam suddenly runs out of battery while on vacation or on an excursion, and the remaining recordings disappear.

The previous model was waterproof to 60 meters, but the Braun Champion 4k II ActionCam is only certified waterproof to 30 meters. Why the manufacturer allowed the deterioration is unclear.

But the fact is that some divers do not have a diving license with which they are allowed to dive to this depth. And in most cases you don’t go to such a depth either, but you are content with a depth of 20-25 meters.

For deeper waters, a different model must be used. The manufacturer probably knew that very few buyers would need ActionCam in such edge cases. Also, don’t forget that the ActionCam Braun Champion 4k II costs about 40% less than its predecessor!

As usual with ActionCams, this camera has a mini HDMI and a USB 2.0 port.

The action camera is compact and reasonably sized. Dimensions 23 x 60 x 43 mm, that is, not too large and not too small. It is not too heavy, with a battery it weighs only 64g, without about 48g.

Package contents – what’s inside?

The scope of supply is sufficient. With other models, you get a little more accessories. However, it must be said that the essentials are included and the price in relation to the technical equipment of the cam itself is very good.

When unpacked, they looked good, the type of packaging is a bit unusual. The camera is mounted above the black package and with it in a transparent plastic box, which is in another large box.

When you receive the model and open the postage bag, remove the plastic box and open the black packaging with a cam on top. You have to be careful with this. All other accessories are included in the black bag.

The delivery includes the following parts:

• Second rear panel with audio slots
• Various cable ties
• Bicycle carrier
• Helmet straps.
• 2 adhesive mounts
• Housing holder for cam for mounting without waterproof housing.
• Various adapters, attachments and brackets.
• Instructions in different languages, including of course German.

Not included, but required:

• microSDHC card (here you can use up to 64 GB)

Image quality – is the camera practical?

The menu navigation for adjusting the various modes and resolutions is structured and not overly cluttered. This can be controlled using the buttons to the right of the cam.

In our opinion, the recorded photos and videos are above average. If we had to rate them, we would give 2 ratings to the photos and videos taken with this camera.

FOtotest 1 Braun Action Camera

The videos recorded at night are not bad, but not very good either. However, the camera lens absorbs enough light from the environment so that the image and footage do not appear too dark. Detail and depth of field are very good and the images are impressive.

Conclusion

If you compare the ActionCam Braun Champion 4k II with other models in this price range, it performs very well. The audio, photo and video quality you get for this price is above average.

You can use it to record all your leisure time. The compactness and portability of the Braun Champion 4k II ActionCam ensures that the camera is ideal for all applications.

Dirt, moisture and strong temperature changes do not bother her. The camera market offers you many other models as well, but many of them can’t keep up with the price / performance ratio because this is truly the best option for the Braun Champion!

So if your budget is tight and you want good quality at a reasonable price, we highly recommend this camera. You can buy an action camera here *.
