We looked for a time-lapse camera and came across an affordable Brinno GWC001 Garden Watch Cam.

This camera provides very high quality time-lapse recording, consumes little battery power, and can generate time-lapse images for hours and combine them into video.

This goes so far that you can, for example, record the color of leaves on trees or the growth and flowering of new plants in the spring for many weeks.

It’s easy to use and especially beginner-friendly. What else we think about Brinno GWC001 Garden Watch Cam you can learn from this report.

The camera takes a picture every minute, but 7 different time intervals can be set for the trigger. The Garden Watch Cam then automatically merges the photos into film, and you can download it to any device of your choice using the USB port (PC, tablet or other system with Windows, Mac OS X or Linux).

The use of this robust garden camera is very versatile and you will have a lot of fun with it.

Design and appearance

Action camera Brino

It is structured and designed so that the camera usually blends in with an idyllic garden landscape. The color is green and the on / off button is orange under the camera lens.

There are 3 status LEDs above the camera sensor. They show if the camera is on or off, the battery is fully charged, or the USB flash memory is full.

The dimensions are 93 x 192 x 60 mm and the weight without batteries is about 260 grams.

Essay holder

The set includes many different clip systems that can be attached to the body. They vary in shape, structure, length and stability.

The case itself is weatherproof and suitable for continuous use, but we do not recommend placing the camera in a puddle as the manufacturer does not provide any information on how completely waterproof the Brinno GWC001 Garden Watch Cam is.

Image sensor, resolution and memory

The Brinno Garden Watch Camera GWC001 has a 1.3 megapixel CMOS sensor. It captures the photos and saves them in JPEG format to then publish them in AV format for viewing.

The recordings are stored on a 2 GB USB stick, this memory stick is even included in the package. Saved photos are time and date stamped so you can later use selected images from recordings for future reference. Alternatively, you can also use a storage medium with a capacity of up to 8 GB.

The GWC model generates a video resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels, i.e. HD resolution, and saves it in AVI format. The field of view is only 49.5 degrees.

Menu navigation and recording modes

The Brinno GWC001 Garden Watch Cam, which is used in the garden, has many different settings. Among other things, you can set the time intervals in different ways.

You have time-lapse intervals of 1 minute, 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, and 24 hours during which the camera always takes a picture.

Other than that, there is not much to say as the cam is very easy to use. The whole operation is performed with one button.

How good is the image quality?

The picture quality is good, but not very good. Of course, the Brinno GWC001 Garden Watch Cam cannot be compared to a regular action cam in terms of recording quality.

For time-lapse photography, the quality is definitely sufficient. It’s just a 1.3MP photo sensor, but time-lapse videos are still impressive.

Color depth

The color depth is also good for a cheap camera, but it could be more.

Lighting conditions

In low light conditions, the images are not as good, but better than we first thought. There is a clear difference in brightness of recorded images between sunny days and rainy days.

What is a camera for?

Interval times

For high-quality, beautiful garden photos, close-ups, and time-lapse videos for weeks or even months (adjustable up to 24 hours).

Due to their light weight, compact size and various attachments, they can be attached in different ways.

You can create fun time-lapse videos of clouds passing, traffic, melting snow, sunrise, and more.
