A new drone from DJI came out some time ago. This is the DJI Inspire 1 drone. In particular, the T600 model with its 4K camera is taking some pretty big steps into the future.

The quality of the Inspire 1 is comparable to the DJI Phantom 3 and DJI Phantom 4 Advance brothers.

The model was clearly intended for tech-savvy professionals. A unique bird’s-eye view with exceptionally high image and video quality and a wide range of features justify the high price tag.

The ability to control the drone using 2 controllers is unique. As such, the Inspire 1 is hard to beat in terms of usability.

In addition, remotes offer many features and specifications.

With one remote controller, you can control the drone along its path. At the same time, a second person can use a different controller to control the 4K Ultra HD camera that is mounted on a 3-axis gimbal.

We have never seen this feature on any other model.

Although the drone produces incredibly high quality and cinematic recordings, it reaches speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour and remains in the air even in strong gusts of wind.

DJI Inspire 1 Brief Review

When you buy the Inspire 1, you can expect:

  • A complete turnkey system that includes everything you need to take off immediately and create great recordings.
  • 12 megapixel camera with which you can create incredibly clear 4K photos and videos.
  • Live stream FPV in 720p HD on your smartphone or tablet, allowing you to see exactly what the drone is watching.
  • Premium quality carbon fiber reinforced material.
  • The Vision Positioning System, which controls the drone’s altitude instead of using GPS, now uses ultrasound and optical ground position monitoring. Therefore, it is also suitable for Indoo flights.

The only downside to this professional drone is its rather high price, which definitely makes you a little poorer. However, there is also the option to purchase the DJI Inspire 1 in installments.

scope of delivery

When you buy this drone, the following parts are included in the kit:

  • 1 x Inspire 1 quadcopter
  • 1 x 4500mAh Flight Battery
  • 1x ZENMUSE X3 stabilizer with X3 / FC350 camera
  • 1 remote control including smartphone holder (also suitable for tablet)
  • 1 x charger
  • 1 SD card 16 GB
  • Tool
  • Cables, instructions and various little things

The DJI Inspire 1 T600 is obviously packed with a whole host of great features, and depending on which scope you choose, you get an extra remote, various accessories and an extra battery.

However, if you opt for the cheap package, you only get the drone, 1 remote control, and a battery.

However, you can easily buy a battery and a second controller once you have the changes you need.

So no matter what package you buy the DJI Inspire 1 with, you are bound to be amazed at the extremely high quality.

Design, quality and durability

The Inspire 1’s design is definitely on trend and has a rather futuristic feel.

It is also worth mentioning here that this model is heavier than the drones of the DJI Phantom line.

However, since the engines are extremely powerful, this is by no means a problem for agility, acceleration and maneuverability.

Either way, when you first take off with the drone, your jaw will drop. Their extremely modern and daring look makes a truly impressive impression.

The drone body is mounted on 4 carbon fiber brackets. What we think is really cool is the looks of this drone.

Your arms are stretched out from your body in different directions at different angles. This makes the Inspire 1 very insect-like. Definitely unique!

Carbon fiber reinforced arms are used to keep the drone stable in the air. Since the main body is significantly heavier, the center of gravity is lower and the drone is more maneuverable.

In addition, the carbon fiber material is not only lightweight but also very durable and shatterproof in case of an accident. A drone of this class really weighs significantly more!

But that is not all. Hold on tight: The motorized arms can be moved for an unobstructed view!

You can move them down or up as you like. This incredibly ingenious feature allows you to move the camera as you like and guarantee a clear view.

We have not seen such a feature in any other model at this price.

From our liking, the design of this drone is much better than that of the DJI Phantom.

The Inspire 1 has a much sleeker chassis, is less bulky and comes in a polished white finish. In our opinion, it looks much better.

But it gets even better: The Inspire 1 not only delivers professional recordings, it is also a lot of fun. It prides itself on its agility, acceleration and speed performance.

The ascent speed is an impressive 5 meters and the descent speed is 4 meters per second.

The maximum flight speed is a full 22 meters per second, which is about 80 kilometers per hour, so you can easily overtake the car as it travels through the city.

But observe the current legislation!

DJI Inspire 1 Camera

We believe that an exceptionally good camera is probably the most attractive feature to buyers and ensures that it ends up in the basket very often despite the high price tag.

The Inspire 1 features a camera that is sometimes the best on the market. It can record videos and images in 4K resolution.

The great thing about the camera is that you can move it 360 degrees in perspective. The main reason for this is its design and how it was mounted on the drone.

You get a 360-degree view of the entire region, which is really great and can be very important for professional photography.

The pilot has the tremendous advantage of recording from all angles regardless of the direction of flight, sideways and downward.

This unique piece of equipment sets the Inspire apart from other drone models on the market.

The camera is capable of taking pictures with a resolution of 12 megapixels. Photography is characterized by extremely high contrast, depth of field and vivid colors.

The ISO value can be set from 100 to 1600 for photos and from 100 to 3200 for videos.

The DJI Inspire 1 T600 also has the ability to set different baud rates. The maximum transfer rate is 60 Mbps.

The memory should be cleaned regularly at the maximum data transfer rate, and we recommend a large memory card.

The heart of the camera is a powerful Sony EXMOR sensor and a 35mm field of view lens. Also very interesting is the anti-distortion function, which removes possible blur from photos and videos.

Videos can be saved in a variety of file formats including MPEG-4 and MOV. Photos can be saved in DNG or JPEG format.

Pictures can be shot in bursts of 3, 5 or 7, and videos can be recorded in UHD, FHD and HD.

Here is a photo taken with a drone:

Suspension system

The Zenmuse X3 gimbal is one of the most advanced 3-axis systems available for aerial photography.

This system provides an exceptionally calm image even when the drone is exposed to strong vibrations or gusts of wind.

To do this, the gimbal uses an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that detects minimal changes in the position of the universal joint and camera and adjusts accordingly.

The movement data is updated once every milliseconds, and the movement compensation occurs almost in real time. It couldn’t be better!

Flight time with the DJI Inspire 1 drone

The Inspire 1 takes 18 m
inutes to fly.

When we talk about the time an aircraft can stay in the air, we inevitably have to talk about a flight battery.

It’s a 4500mAh Lipo 6s battery that puts out 22.2 volts.

It has 99.9 watt-hours and weighs over half a kilogram, namely 560 grams. But for a drone of this size, this is completely normal!

There is also a 5700mAh battery for the Inspire 1, with which you can easily get a flight time of 22 minutes! How long you can actually stay in the air depends on your flying style.

Those who constantly perform daring maneuvers that are exhausting for a drone may not reach the maximum flight time.

The normal weight of an entire quadcopter is usually 2.9 kilograms, if you want to load even more, you will also have to reckon with less flight time!

Outside temperature also affects the performance of the flight battery.

Normal operating temperature is -10 to 40 degrees Celsius. Voltage can drop at very, very low temperatures.

The drone then sends out a warning signal that you should land, although the battery may even be fully charged. Therefore, we do not recommend climbing the Inspire 1 in temperatures below -10 degrees.

Remote control

The 2.4 GHz controller has a maximum transmission range of up to 5 kilometers in the absence of external interference. However, this does not apply to the remote control that ships with the Inspire in the USA.

The CE standard is applied here, which states that the transmitter can have a maximum power of 25 mW. This means that in Europe, the transmission distance is only about 3.5 km!

However, you must comply with German drone laws. The drone can only be flown within sight.

The remote control itself has a USB port and a mini HDMI video output.

There is a battery inside that can be charged. We recommend using only a DJI charger for this to avoid damaging the controller’s battery.

The real highlight is the ability to use 2 remote controls. They can be used simultaneously to better control the drone in a coordinated manner.

The remote controller is used to control the movements of the quadcopter, while the co-pilot can use a different controller to change the angle and movement of the camera.

With this feature, you can control the drone while another takes breathtaking photos and videos. Real professionals can work with this function.

The remote controller also gives the drone pilot a much better control feel compared to earlier DJI drones.

DJI Inspire 1 Commissioning

Before flying with the DJI Inspire 1, briefly check to see if the battery is actually fully charged. If all 4 LEDs light up when turned on, the flight battery is fully charged.

The battery fits into the Inspire 1 from the top. Make sure it is properly locked and, if necessary, press it again to make sure it is actually firmly in place.

If you haven’t installed the propellers yet, make sure they are installed correctly.

Typically, this model has color coded propellers such as silver and black.

The direction of rotation is also recorded. Propellers need to be screwed into this. You need to make sure that they are not only loosely screwed on, but that they are holding each individual motor by the end and tightening the screw again.

This is important, it is the only way to ensure correct propeller installation.

Before turning it on, it is also important to position the drone so that the camera is not leaning on an object (a pile of grass, rocks) so that the gimbal can properly align when turned on.

It may also be important to insert the SD card so that it is really firmly in place, otherwise the recordings cannot be saved.

You can now lift the DJI Inspire 1 into the air. It is important to place the two antennas parallel to each other for maximum range.

In addition, the smartphone or tablet must of course be turned on for the app to work with the remote control and the drone.

After you have checked everything, you should first turn on the remote control and then the quadcopter. Now it takes time to properly adjust the gimbal. You should wait for this period of time.

The camera should be aligned so that it points away from you on first launch. This way, you will get a good feeling of flying faster with the DJI Inspire 1, because the stick movements you make with the remote also correspond to the direction of flight.

Then you will definitely be asked to calibrate the drone. Just follow the instructions to calibrate the compass in the app.

If you have minor position changes, the Inspire 1 rarely or does not need to be calibrated before each launch.

Flight behavior

Once you’ve done everything, the drone can be launched. Once the propellers turn, simply move the left stick slightly forward and the Inspire 1 will fly upward.

The drone is kept in the air even in hover flight and can easily balance even strong gusts of wind, so if you release all the sticks, nothing happens and the Inspire 1 will remain completely unimpressed in place.

In hilly terrain, make sure the drone is measuring distance to the ground using sonar and wants to maintain its current altitude.

For example, if you are flying over a hill the drone will drown when you continue flying, here you need to point the left stick against it.

As for the flight characteristics, it is very maneuverable, maneuverable and accurate. The acceleration and speed values it provides are enormous, as mentioned at the beginning, and a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour is no problem.

DJI Inspire 1 drone advantages and disadvantages

Now that we have listed the most important features and functions, let’s take a look at some of the advantages and disadvantages.
