The X5HC PRO is an updated version of the X5C / X5SC quadcopter with many new features such as headless mode and altitude barometer. This drone is perfect for beginners, so we took a closer look at it.

It’s good that the quadcopter is already fully assembled and almost ready for takeoff. So all you have to do is charge the battery and you can take off. You can watch a test video here:

Pros accustomed to higher-end drones like the DJI Mavic Pro or Parrot Bebop 2 won’t be able to do that much with the X5HC PRO. However, if you don’t have any flying experience and don’t have such a large budget, you should look at drones from Syma, Parrot and Hubsan.

X5HC PRO Quadcopter Specifications

With the X5HC PRO battery, the drone stays in the air for a while, about 10 minutes. The package also includes a 5-in-1 charging cable, with which you can charge up to 5 batteries at the same time. They can also be changed so that the flight time can be easily extended by multiple transfers.

The range is about 80 meters with no obstacles in between. In this case, the connection may be terminated earlier. 2.4 GHz radio transmission is used for control.

Anyone with a lot of technical know-how can increase this range by increasing the transmit power. However, you must comply with the laws in force in the USA, because the drone can only fly within sight. The remote control also has a built-in display that is responsible for showing menu navigation and the most important flight data.

The material used is high quality and flexible enough to cushion a fall. The dimensions are 31.5 x 31.5 x 5 cm, which is not bad for a drone in this price range.

The drone has built-in LEDs that flash as soon as the aircraft is put into service. They are attached from below and make it possible to control the quadcopter even in the dark. This is a significant improvement over the previous model, which did not have such a lighting system.

The highlight of this price range is the built-in 2-megapixel camera that can record videos in HD quality.

Here are two sample camera photos, unedited:

Properties and modes

The new successor to the Syma X5C, thanks to the newly built-in altitude barometer, automatically maintains the set altitude. This makes flying the drone more relaxed and you can focus better on taking photos or making videos.

The so-called headless mode, which is specially designed for beginners, is a novelty. Due to the simplified control in this mode, the beginner can direct the drone in a certain direction without thinking again.

Headless mode means Syma X5HC PRO quadcopter moves according to the joystick of the remote controller. If the right stick is pushed forward, the remotely controlled flying object flies away from the pilot, if pulled towards the pilot, the drone returns to the transmitter, regardless of which direction the flying object’s head is pointing.

Cool gadget – X5HC PRO flip function. When the button is pressed, it makes a roll, and then itself returns to hover mode.

For advanced users, it is possible to order an FPV expansion kit. Thanks to this, images are transmitted directly to your smartphone or tablet, and you can watch live what the drone sees and records. The transmission works via WIFI. In some stores, an expansion kit is already included with the model.

With the FPV kit, the camera image can be monitored in real time on the smartphone. To do this, you need an app and a compatible smartphone. The FPV app is available in the Android and IOS app store.

Pros and cons

Of course, you shouldn’t expect too much for the price. A few things we didn’t like were the short range, short flight times, and long charging times, around 120 minutes. We again compared all the advantages and disadvantages for you:

Privileges:

  • Very cheap – everyone can afford it
  • Built-in altitude barometer – the drone is stable in the air and automatically maintains altitude
  • Suitable for beginners, headless mode provides simplified operation
  • Extensive accessories

Disadvantage:

  • The flight range is only 30-50 m.
  • Flight time is limited to approximately 10 minutes per battery charge.

X5HC PRO compared to other drones

The X5HC PRO is a fairly simple and compact drone, perfect for beginners. Of course, there are other quadcopters out there that are just gorgeous!

If you don’t have a lot of flying experience, we recommend you start flying with a mini drone. Parrot and DJI are brands we can recommend unconditionally.

In our tests, we deliberately crashed the Parrot Mambo and Parrot Airborne Night on several occasions. The drones were not damaged.

This is also a small disadvantage of the X5HC PRO compared to such a mini drone. Airborne Night is half the size and is less likely to break in the event of an accident.

Also worth looking at is the sister model Syma X5SW. While this drone lacks altitude stabilization and the XH5C PRO drone enhancements, the Wi-Fi package does not need to be purchased as an option, it is already included as standard.

Conclusion

If you are in the mood for tech gadgets and want to train your flying skills, this drone is very suitable for both beginners and experienced users.

However, there are cheaper drone models, such as the previous model X5HC PRO. In terms of price / performance, the DJI Ryze drone The DJI Tello is much better, but it’s a mini drone.
