We took a closer look at the DJI Mavic Mini Clone from Eachine, EX5. This drone is the successor to the already very good entry-level Eachine EX4 drone, which we also tested extensively.

In the next video, we will show you all the advantages and disadvantages of the drone in detail. You can buy EX5 cheap with this discount code “BGRCEX595”. Just enter it in the order process and select the “CN” warehouse.

Photo and video quality

The drone takes photos at 4096 × 3072 pixels in JPG format. Unfortunately, you cannot take photos in JPG format.

Overall photo quality is good for entry-level drones at this price point, but discerning photographers shouldn’t expect great shots.

Here are some drone shots:

All photos and videos are saved on your mobile phone as the drone does not have an SD slot. This is a little annoying to me, since the previous model solved this problem better.

Videos are recorded in 4k (3840×2160 pixels) but only at 10 frames per second.

Accordingly, the videos look a little choppy. The drone still has no gimbal, so all videos will always be blurry.

That said, I’m fine with the overall video quality for a drone at this price point.

All drone pilots looking to record stabilized video should take a look at the DJI Mavic Mini or SG906 Pro drone.

Flight times, flight behavior and intelligent flight modes

The flight characteristics of the DJI Mavic Mini Clone are really good for an entry-level drone.

Since the drone has a GPS module, it stands calmly and calmly in the air, even in moderate winds.

In addition, the EX5 has 3 speed levels: slow, medium and high. They can be configured on the remote control using the button on the back.

Overall, the Eachine EX5 is manoeuvrable and maneuverable in the air, and I felt confident flying the drone from the start.

The entry-level drone has practical intelligent flight modes:

  • Self-stabilizing
  • Waypoints
  • follow me
  • orbit
  • To come back home

In self-stabilization mode, the drone stays in place and, as the name suggests, remains stable in the air. This mode is especially suitable for photo and video recording.

In waypoint mode, we can draw waypoints on the map, after which the drone flies away one by one. It is also possible to fly over waypoints and save them as a route for future flights. Up to 10 waypoints can be drawn on the map.

In Follow-Me mode, the drone follows the GPS signal of your mobile phone and follows you every step of the way. As shown in the video, this works seamlessly at low speeds and the drone is tracking you. You can also use it to create beautiful travel videos.

In orbit mode, the drone rotates around an object of your choice. The first step is to place the drone over the object you want to circle.

The drone will then move 4m away from you and then turn in your direction. You can then use the control stick to command the flight in a clockwise or counterclockwise circle.

Orbit mode also works flawlessly in practice and offers the ability to simply produce beautiful videos as a novice pilot.

Return to Home (RTH) mode allows the drone to return easily and safely with the push of a button.

You can activate this mode either in the app or using a button on the remote control.

The drone then immediately starts flying home and returns to the starting point. It should be noted that the drone simply returns to the altitude it is currently at.

With more expensive models such as the Mavic Air 2, the return height can be manually set; Eachine EX5 does not (yet) offer this option.

The RTH mode also worked flawlessly. The drone quickly returned and landed again less than three feet from the landing pad it originally took off from.

Even if the battery is low, the drone will automatically return and indicate this with a loud beep from the remote controller. The flight time is 12 to 13 minutes, depending on how often we use the drone in practice.

Drone attachment and weight

The drone, like the DJI Mavic Mini, weighs less than 250g, or rather 230g. This leads to simplified legal rules if we want to operate the drone.

We need, for example, there is no drone license plate, but there is civil liability insurance.

The EX5 is controlled by the Eachine Pro app, which is free to download for Android and iOS.

The application is simple and straightforward, so even beginners will quickly figure it out.

Conclusion on the Eachine EX5

The EX5 is a great entry-level drone at an affordable price. We receive a drone kit with 3 batteries for just under 140 euros.

In addition, the drone offers excellent value for money. Here we get a lot of drones for little money.
