Overall rating 4.1 / 5

The Hawkeye Firefly 8SE action camera is slightly more expensive than other action cameras, but still cheaper than the GoPro.

In our opinion, its price in the region of 150 euros is absolutely justified, since it is equipped with a fairly modern Ambarella A12S processor, and also has a high-resolution imx117 sensor from Sony.

In this report, we’ll show you what else the model has to offer.

The value for money is definitely excellent, the camera offers a lot of modern technology for the money and is quite powerful. Powered by the Ambarella A12S processor, it generates a frame rate of up to 240 images per second, making it ideal for slow motion recording.

Thanks to the unique chip architecture and 28nm processor technology, power consumption is reduced while at the same time, the technically possible performance is significantly increased. It is not for nothing that the chipset is installed in 360-degree cameras, because they also require great performance.

When it comes to quality, you are always safe with the Hawkeye Fireflye 8SE Action Camera. The only question is whether you need such performance or a cheaper camera model is enough for your purposes.

Design and appearance

Externally, the camera makes a very positive impression, looks very modern and is similar in structure to the action cameras of GoPro.

There are various connectors on the left, the unlock button is at the top right.

The battery cover is on the bottom right and the tripod holder is on the left.

Image sensor, resolution and memory

The Hawkeye Fireflye 8SE Action Cam features a very bright 5.1cm LCD touchscreen on the back and looks very modern. But in the end, inner values matter.

And this model is at the forefront, because the Sony imx117 sensor combined with the state-of-the-art chipset generates very high quality photos and videos.

The following resolution formats are available for photos:

  • 4K @ 30fps
  • 1080P @ 120fps
  • 2.5K @ 60fps
  • 2.7K @ 30fps

You can take photos at 16 megapixels and set different resolutions for creating images in the menu.

Pictures are saved on external TF card. You have to buy them externally.
