Looking again for a foldable mini drone, we stumbled upon the HELIFAR H815 mini quadcopter.

Not only does it have a cool design, but it also brings a lot of fun to the living room with its 360-degree swivel and turn-maneuvering function. This model is less suitable for flying outdoors, but also costs less than 20 €. Since the drone is quite small and light, strong gusts of wind are of course a big problem!

The HELIFAR H815 mini quadcopter is the perfect birthday or Christmas gift for children aged 14 and over. At least this is the manufacturer’s recommended age.

Technical details and characteristics

This drone is fun to fly. All the parts you need to get started are included. However, the remote control takes some getting used to, the levers are not positioned as usual, but you get used to them quickly.

Newcomers especially benefit from the headless drone control and auto return to home feature. These features make it easy to keep the aircraft in the ideal flying position.

Attached to the front is an excellent LED flashlight, thanks to which you can see and control the drone very well even in the dark or gloomy environment.

In terms of color, the design is orange on top and black on the bottom. Unfortunately, the store only has this color combination (orange / black).

With other models, it happens more and more often that the drone can be folded, this also applies to the HELIFAR H815.

The material, like the propellers, is made of plastic, but you shouldn’t expect anything else for a price below 20 euros. There are drones that even use carbon, but these are quadcopters, some of which are in the four-figure price range.

The model measures 9.6 x 10 cm when opened, and 5.8 x 6.4 cm when folded.

Is there a camera?

Unfortunately there is no camera in this model and therefore no FPV function. But the mini drone has many other great flight functions. If you buy a CMOS photo sensor and FPV equipment that are small in size, you can theoretically benefit from a drone camera. However, in this case, you should also just buy a larger quadcopter and invest a little more in the model itself.

Range, battery and flight time

A 3.7 volt battery with a capacity of about 200 mAh is installed. This is the amount of energy a drone can hold in the air for about 5 minutes. The flight battery must then be charged for approximately 50 minutes.

Such a short flight time is perfectly normal for the mini drone category.

The transmitter is doing a pretty good job. This gives us a range of 70 to 100 meters with this model, which is pretty good for a model of this size.

Stunts and flight modes

If you are looking for a quadcopter, you will often find that it has great features. These include, for example, the return to home function, the 360-degree rotation function, the headless mode and the compass mode. The Helifar foldable mini drone has all of these modes, which greatly improves the price / performance ratio.

We’re particularly interested in the 360-degree rotation feature, in which the drone does great flips and then automatically switches to hover mode. You just need to press one button on the remote control and the Helifar drone does the rest.

Also integrated is a headless mode, in which you can steer the quadcopter in any direction, regardless of how the front is aligned with you. For example, if you move the right stick down, the drone will fly towards you, even if it is sideways towards you.

Pros and cons

  • Very compact drone with small dimensions and foldable design
  • Ideal for beginners
  • High quality 2.4 GHz remote control with a range of up to 100 meters
  • Lots of great features
  • To come back home
  • Headless mode – very good for beginners to practice
  • Can perform cool tricks such as 360-degree flip at the touch of a button

  • Very sensitive to wind – more suitable for indoor use
  • Relatively short flight times (5 minutes) are normal for drones in this size class.
  • You will also need 3 AAA batteries for the remote control (not included).

The remote control plane is suitable for all ages and brings tons of fun to the living room. However, this drone is only recommended from age 14. The fun factor is always there. However, in our experience, quadcopters in this weight class are extremely sensitive to wind and can only fly outdoors when there is absolutely no wind. Therefore, in our opinion, the Helifar H815 is more of a model for indoor flights.

In terms of control, the quadcopter is very maneuverable and maneuverable and you will get up to speed quickly. All in all a great entry-level model!
