Another aircraft we looked at is the Reely Folding Drone Quadcopter RtF. Due to its low price, it is very well suited for people who want to experience the taste of drone flying with an entry-level drone.

The specs are impressive for the price. Of course, you shouldn’t expect too much for less than 80 €. We noticed great modes such as Altitude Hold where the drone automatically maintains its altitude, Headless Mode, Flip and Return to Home, which we noted very positively.

What we didn’t like is that the transmitter has a maximum range of 40 meters. Therefore, if you want to fly even further, you must think about how to amplify the signal.

The design is somewhat similar to the DJI Mavic drone, but incomparable in cost and does not have a gimbal system.

Good news: if you want to fly this quadcopter, you do not need to be tagged because the takeoff weight is less than 250g. Thus, you do not need to write your name and address on the drone. But still follow the general rules, for example, that you are not allowed to fly near airports, over nature reserves and crowds. In addition, liability insurance is required!

scope of delivery

The package includes a Reely foldable quadcopter, a remote control system, a flight battery, 2 spare propellers, 4 propeller guards, 2 landing gear, a smartphone holder, a USB charging cable and an instruction manual.

Unfortunately, there is no complete second propeller set, only 2 replaceable propellers. Complaints are high, however, as only 1-2 propellers often break in a collision. Since it is child’s play to operate the Reely Folding Quadcopter, accidents can be easily avoided.

In addition, the drone is designed for heavy loads 🙂

Additional technical details and equipment

Visually, the drone makes a very good impression, but what looks good doesn’t have to be good. Therefore, we looked very closely at the technical equipment.

The Reely Folding drone has 3 different speed levels with which you can adjust the power of the powerful electric motors. For beginners, we recommend starting at level 1 and then gradually approaching levels 2 and 3.

Plus, the drone folds down easily and fits into any backpack. So you can comfortably take it with you on vacation and capture your memories from the air. When unfolded, the drone is 303 mm wide, 310 mm long and 110 mm high.

The smartphone holder can be attached to the above remote control. Unfortunately the tablet doesn’t fit in the holder. To be able to use live streaming from the drone, you must have Android 4.0 or higher, alternatively, IOS 6.0 or higher.

camera

The HD camera is 0.9 megapixels and the video resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels, which doesn’t sound very good at first, but it’s very good for this price range!

Drone camera front view

The camera image is transmitted to the smartphone live via Wi-Fi, and the video footage recorded at 20 frames per second and photos can be saved to the SD card. Unfortunately, the required Micro SD card is not included in the package.

Supports SD cards up to 32GB. I used this for a photo and video test. You can see 1 unedited photo here:

Battery charge and flight time

Weighing 142g and having an 850mAh battery, the drone provides a flight time of 8 minutes. Unfortunately, it takes about 2 hours to charge the battery. This is not a very good relationship between flight time and load time. However, one should not forget that this is quite normal in this price category.Since the flight battery is replaceable, you can extend your flight time with additional batteries, of course with a few stops along the way.

The instruction manual says that the battery should never be charged immediately after flight, but at least 5-10 minutes must elapse between use and active charging, otherwise the battery may be damaged.

For the transmitter, you will need 4 x 1.5V AA batteries. According to the operating instructions, the use of typical AA batteries is not recommended as they only have 1.2V cells instead of 1.5V conventional batteries.

Overview of pros and cons

The Reely Folding drone is a very balanced aircraft. Some things might be better, but for under € 80 you can get a very good quadcopter here.

Privileges:

• Suitable for beginners.
• An inexpensive drone with a good price / quality ratio.
• Cool design
• Extensive functions and modes
• Live image directly on your smartphone

Disadvantage:

• Only 8 minutes flight time with long charging time (120 minutes)
• Transmitter range 40 meters
• Rather unsuitable for professionals

Flight behavior

The weight of this drone is quite light compared to its size. In case of strong gusts of wind, it may happen that you lose control of the aircraft for a short time. However, if the wind is moderate or even calm, you can fly accurately.

Maneuverability is fine, of course, the tilt angle is not as strong as that of the DJI drones.
The Reely foldable drone picks up top speed quite quickly even at the set maximum speed level. Therefore, we recommend that you practice in the open field first.

Return to Home and other modes can be easily activated and work reliably. If you have flown further, the landing point may deviate 1-2 meters from the starting point when the return home function is activated.

Conclusion

The Reely manufacturer may be unknown to many, but Reely Folding is not the only aircraft of the manufacturer. The company’s racing drones such as the Reely Racecopter X250 RtF are especially popular. However, such aircraft are less suitable for beginners because they do not have balancing systems and do not stay in the air.

To summarize: you get a good entry-level drone for little money. However, the camera’s performance is not sufficient for professional recording. The design and ability to fold the rotors are original and certainly unique for this price range. A similar drone for professionals is available at DJI: => Click here to go to the DJI Mavic Pro.

Other drones for beginners as an alternative

For comparison with the Reely Folding Quadcopter, you can take a look at this Hubsan drone. In addition, the Parrot Mambo and Parrot Airborne Night also got very positive results in our practice test.

For 50-60 euros, there is also a Syma X5C (-1) quadcopter. However, Reely Folding gave a much better overall picture than the Syma drone.
