For beginners who are not investing that much money in their first drone but still want to use a larger model for practice, the s-idee 01608 quadcopter is worth considering.
This is a drone for FPV for 130 euros with a significant size. With the built-in camera, you can record breathtaking photos and videos. In this case, the images are transmitted directly to the transmitter screen.
Despite the low price, the drone is full of technology, in this report we will dive into the most important technical details.
Size, design and weight
The quadcopter measures 48cm (width) x 48cm (length) x 12cm (height) and makes a strong impression compared to other drones.
The body and most of the other elements are made of plastic, but at the same time of high quality and durable.
The so-called bumpers are attached to the rotors, which protect the rotor blades from other objects.
The camera is mounted on the bottom of the drone’s belly. The landing skids are located to the right and left of the camera and are somewhat reminiscent of the DJI Phantom body.
Since the weight is about 1.6kg, you need to attach the drone license plate, no drone license is required.
Camera, memory and FPV live image transmission
An HD camera was installed here, which provides up to 30 images per second at 720P resolution. The photo and video data is then saved to a microSD card, which you can later remove and view with a card reader on your PC, laptop or other device.
The FPV signal is transmitted directly to the transmitter, the transmission frequency is 5.8GHz. The latency is fine, we couldn’t measure it accurately, but the latency caused by the transmission is limited.
Battery, range and flight time
The drone is equipped with a 7.4V 1000mAh LiPo battery. The flight battery provides a flight time of up to 10 minutes. Charging takes about 60 minutes.
The transmission range is approximately 100 meters, after which it ends. However, the USA has drone laws that state that a quadcopter can only fly within line of sight.
A 6-axis gyroscopic system is used to stabilize the flight position. This means the drone is stabilizing. When you release the control sticks, the system ensures that the aircraft hovers automatically and stays in place.
This also applies to somersaults and roles, which you can perform at the touch of a button. After performing tricks, the drone will automatically enter hover mode.
