Syma X8HG has been on the market since 2016 and is a safe drone for drone beginners and youth. This is especially highlighted by the headless mode and hover function of this Syma drone.

The 8MP camera and overcurrent protection mode, which activates when very high resistance is applied to the drives, such as an object in one of the propellers, are new.

Compared to other drones in this price segment, it really does have a hefty size of 50 x 50 x 19 cm. Overall, its structure and design is reminiscent of the DJI Phantom 2. The 8.0 megapixel HD camera is shaped like typical GoPro cameras. which gives the impression of quality. In our Syma X8HG test, we show you if the drone really does what it promises, in which we critically pay attention to several points.

Syma X8HG FPV – yes or no?

Many of our readers are particularly interested in the drone’s FPV mode. However, for some reason, the Syma X8HG is no longer sold with this feature. Videos are only saved on the internal SD card in 1080p resolution. If you want to have a drone with WiFi, you should use the Syma X8HW with WiFi FPV camera. That Syma X8HG is selling with such a Wifi FPV camera is misinformation!

Technical details and features

The highlight of this price point is the X8HG barometer. It always keeps the drone at an accurate height and when combined with a 6-position stabilization gyro ensures that it floats very stable and reliably in the air.

The barometer works through air pressure, from time to time it may happen that the drone drops very slightly at night, but then it immediately corrects it. This technology is actually only built into much more expensive models.

Here are some Syma X8HG data, facts and figures:

  • Flight time: 6-8 minutes per battery (without camera up to 11 minutes)
  • Charging time: about 120-180 minutes
  • Range: about 70-100 meters
  • Battery: 7.4 volt 2000mAh lithium polymer battery
  • Weight: 1500 g
  • 8.0MP HD camera
  • 6-axis gyroscope
  • Headless mode, high speed / low speed mode and 3D stunts
  • LED lighting for night flights

Syma X8HG advantages and disadvantages

Let’s get down to the disadvantages first: The Syma X8HG is very heavy, which ensures it can withstand gusts of wind very well. However, this also makes it more cumbersome and therefore does not grow as quickly.

For the price, don’t expect too much in terms of image quality. But for recordings and snapshots, this is quite enough. Since the drone has no gimbal, movements are visible on the recording. In this video, you can get an idea of it yourself:

If you have a GoPro 3 or 4, the X8HG can also stream higher quality images. The problem with the missing gimbal still exists. It is perfectly normal that a drone in this price range does not have such a system!

In addition, it unfortunately does not have an additional home button with which you can switch to return home mode. Another drawback is the poor ratio of flight time to load time. Because when flying with the camera installed, the fun ends in 6-8 minutes, and then the battery needs to be charged in 2-3 hours. You can fix this, for example, by purchasing 3 batteries and a 3-in-1 charging cable.

The advantages outweigh the disadvantages, on the one hand, as already mentioned, the drone is a very good model for beginner drones, on the other hand, it looks very reliable, flies stably and has a number of interesting flight modes. In particular, guidance (altitude hold) above the barometer speaks about the X8HG.

What makes this model, like many other Syma drones interesting for beginners, is the propeller guard. Before starting work, you should put on the so-called bumpers. These are the brackets on the rotors as you can see in the photos. In particular, we recommend attaching this guard if you have little experience with flying and want to fly indoors.

If you are unsure of what to do, there is no need to be afraid of assembling the drone. In fact, it is almost “ready to fly.” All you have to do is install the propeller, propeller and foot protectors, charge the battery, insert it, and nothing will stop you from having fun.

For just under € 120, you can get the best drone with the Syma X8HW. Buyers looking for a quadcopter in this price range are often very happy with the structure, design, quality and functions of Syma drones.

While it only has a range of around 100 meters, since the drone law in the USA stipulates that drones can only fly within line of sight, claims that 100 meters may be too short are being put into perspective. Because from this distance it becomes difficult to see how the drone is moving. Headless mode is an advantage here, as the X8HG moves in the same way you move the control sticks, regardless of how the head is currently aligned.

You have to weigh which drone is right for you. For example, if you want to shoot and shoot YouTube videos, it is less suitable because, for example, it lacks the Follow Me feature. In this case, we recommend the more expensive DJI models.

However, if it is only used for taking a few pictures on vacation or exploring the countryside from the air, this is enough.

Therefore, we give a clear recommendation for the purchase of this model!
