Transonic drone quadcopter with HD camera for beginners

For newbies, we again chose a particularly interesting drone model at an unbeatable price point. This is the Razor FPV Transonic Quadcopter, which originally cost around € 100, but is now available on Amazon for less than € 40.

The drone is small and handy. In addition, the remote control has a holder on which you can attach your smartphone to view FPV images.

Remote control

A small plane can be controlled using a remote control or just using a smartphone.

Technical data and facts

Weighing only 60g, with a diameter of about 17.5cm and a height of 3.5cm, the Transonic is quite compact. You can easily take your remote controlled flight model with you wherever you go. In addition, the Razor is not subject to any labeling requirements and you do not need to obtain a drone driver’s license as the total takeoff weight is less than 250g.

The maximum range is about 100 meters, although the drone is so small. This is a real advantage over some of the other models in this size category, which sometimes only have a transmission range of 30 meters. If you want to fly at top speed, you can get the drone up to 20 kilometers per hour, which is definitely pretty decent for a mini drone like the Transonic Razor.

Unfortunately, the battery lasts for a maximum of 7 minutes, after which you have to charge it for about 75. However, a second flight battery is included in the kit, which can be changed. It is also possible to buy additional batteries.

Installed HD-camera, with which you can make high-quality photos and videos. The recorded video signal is transmitted in real time to the smartphone, this function is called “First Person View” (FPV). The resolution of the recorded photos and videos is 1280 x 720 pixels.

As mentioned at the beginning, the drone can be paired with your smartphone, this requires an appropriate app (available for iOS and Android devices). They are also free in German. Menu navigation is pretty straightforward and straightforward.

Flight stability

Here you can set various great features, including the following flight modes:

Tracking: With this feature, you ensure that the drone is performing the maneuver drawn on the smartphone screen.

Hold Altitude: As the name suggests, the drone automatically maintains altitude, some sensors on the bottom are responsible for this.

Home function: this mode can be activated by a button on the remote control. The drone lands at the launch point.

Rolls and Rolls: You can inspire your friends, family or colleagues to do acrobatic stunts without much flying experience. For this, there are pre-programmed flight programs that can be started using specific buttons. The Transonic Wave Razor drone then performs these tricks and then goes into hover mode without any further action.

Throw Start: The name already suggests, it’s about the ability to manually launch the drone. Just activate Throw Start mode and toss the Wave Razor into the air, after which it will automatically switch to Hold Altitude mode.

Headless Mode: The aircraft is controlled regardless of the orientation of the muzzle. If you stand next to the drone so that its front end is directed at you, move the control stick forward and are in headless mode, then it will fly not towards you, but away from you. This kind of saves you the trouble of rethinking, so headless mode is very suitable for beginners.

Operation, control and flight skills

Remote control

The Transonic Wave Razor drone has a robust 6-axis gyroscope and auto-tuning. The drone pilot does not need to make daring maneuvers to keep the plane in the air.

The rest of the drone can be controlled normally, like any other quadrocopter model. In a short time, you will feel in flight and learn to intuitively control the Wave Razor without creating collisions or crashes.

In addition to the aforementioned headless mode, there are also 3 different speed levels. For beginners, the lowest level is recommended in combination with the headless mode. Gradually, you will be able to fly normally and level up. The RC flight model is quite robust, especially due to its compact size and light weight.

Pros and cons

The price is now extremely low, that’s a fact. However, there are some disadvantages that we do not want to hide from you. To give you a better overview, we will summarize the most important positive and negative facts for you in the following lines.

Other mini drone models

So far we have tested several mini drones, including the Mambo and Airborne drone from French manufacturer Parrot, as well as the DJI Spark. The latter, however, requires a considerably larger budget.

Parrot Mambo and In the Air

Parrot’s Mambo and Airborne drones were originally in the same high price range as the Transonic Quadcopter, so these flight models can be easily compared to each other.

Compared to the Mambo and Airborne, the Wave Razor has a front-facing camera and live image transmission (FPV). Plus, it is significantly cheaper now on Amazon. That is why we believe that the price / quality ratio of this model is currently unbeatable.

DJI Spark

Anyone already familiar with DJI drones knows what kind of concentrated load of quality you can expect when choosing a drone from market leader DJI.

You have to dig much deeper in your pocket here, but then you get a great mini drone that can withstand strong gusts of wind, has a very good camera, gesture control and an incredible number of flight modes and functions.

You can find the DJI Spark test report here.

There are many mini drones on the market right now, we have tested several of this category so far which are very similar. Transonic’s Wave Razor quadcopter is clearly ahead, especially when it comes to value for money.

Of course, you shouldn’t look too closely at the quality of the photo and video, because this is not a large photo drone, which would otherwise be significantly more expensive. Therefore, it is not suitable for photographers and videographers. However, beginners can do a lot with the drone, have a lot of fun and gradually get used to the drone’s flight behavior. They are supported by a variety of flight modes.

Overall, this is a very good mini drone with a high price / performance level, currently a discount of around € 60 as it usually costs just under € 100 and is currently available at less than € 40.
