In today’s review, we would like to introduce you to a new drone that has just appeared on the market. The Yuneec Mantis G quadrocopter has a fairly compact size for its performance, has a high drive power, a powerful battery and quickly reaches speeds of up to 72 kilometers per hour.

The price for which you get this model is quite affordable – around 699 euros. There’s also a 4K resolution gimbal-stabilized camera.

In addition, the drone has a large internal memory that can hold around 16 gigabytes. But you can also use an SD card with up to 128 gigabytes of storage.

Of course, these features sound like a dream come true, and if you then look at the price point, it’s clear that the Yuneec Mantis G has to have a pretty darn good value for money. However, we wanted to find out for you with an extensive test whether the purchase is really worth the purchase and whether the quality matches what the manufacturers promise.

Yuneec Mantis G drone technical data and facts

Thanks to the gimbal stabilized camera, the quadcopter should generate the most calm images from the air.

For our taste, photos and videos also look very good, rich in details and colors.

The remotely controlled aircraft can be controlled using a smartphone and controller. The maximum range is up to 2 kilometers.

Of course, the drone can also be controlled by voice commands, but you will definitely need the Yuneec pilot app extension.

Thanks to the GPS and GLONASS system, it can also return to the starting point of departure. In addition, the drone is kept in perfect flight by GPS. During our test flights, we were able to determine that this quadcopter can hold its position even in strong gusts of wind and does not fly away. This model also owes 4 powerful drives, because they resist the wind correctly.

Actually, the drives are also designed for very high speeds. As already mentioned, the top speed is 72 km / h, but the acceleration is very exhausting. This is why Yuneec Mantis G is not suitable for children under the age of 14.

Of course, these are brushless motors. This means that every electric motor has no carbon brushes, so there are no sliding contacts, so there is no contact between the stationary stator and the moving rotor. These properties ensure that each individual motor can reach much higher speeds than conventional electric motors. In addition, the lifespan is significantly increased, wear is less and the engine lasts longer, which means you can use the drone for many years.

The drone also has many great flight modes that we would like to introduce later, this model is a technical masterpiece anyway!

After the first test flights, we were very pleasantly surprised by the Yuneec Mantis G drone. At first we thought it was just another copy of the DJI Mavic, but in terms of technical characteristics and quality it is very close to the models of the DJI market leader!

Camera system

With the built-in camera attached to a modern gimbal, stable video recording is always guaranteed. The image and video are sent to your smartphone in real time through a stable connection with the remote controller. Thus, Yuneec Mantis G can be controlled in the first person. It also gives the impression that you yourself are sitting in the cockpit. The experience can be made even more realistic with FPV goggles. Unfortunately, we have not yet found suitable glasses for this model.

Recordings are made with a pixel density of 3840 x 2160 pixels and a frame rate, i.e., a frame rate of 30 frames per second. Of course, the camera has 21.5 millimeters with a 117-degree field of view. So you always have everything in sight and you can get the most out of the flight.

Photos and videos stabilized by the gimbal are saved in JPEG and DNG formats.

In our detailed test, we were able to determine that the signal transmission from the live image has virtually no latency. This is certainly also due to the fact that there is a 2.4GHz and 5GHz back-up signal transmission happening here.

Photos are taken with a resolution of up to 13 MP. The 1 / 3.06 ” CMOS sensor delivers excellent images comparable to what we’re used to from DJI. Especially rich colors and depth of field make the picture very high quality. If you want to shoot regular still images, you can choose between 4: 3 (4160 x 3120 pixels) and 16: 9 (4160 x 2340 pixels) formats.

With video, you can specify in the smartphone settings with what resolution and with how many frames you want to record. The videos are then saved in MP4MOV format.

You have to consider this, the better the resolution, the lower the frame rate. This means that if you want to subsequently edit a video on a PC and, for example, want to make a slow motion video out of it, you should definitely choose a high frame rate, but this is only at the expense of the resolution and therefore the video quality itself.

Here’s an overview of the resolutions you can choose from the menu.

  • 4K: 3840 x 2160 pixels @ 30fps
  • 2.7K: 2704 x 1520 pixels @ 30 fps
  • 1080P: 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 or 60 fps
  • 720P: 1280 x 720 @ 60fps

Battery and flight time

With one battery charge, you can easily reach 30 minutes of flight time, and if you fly economically, you can last 1-2 minutes longer! This, of course, greatly enhances the enjoyment of the flight. However, there is only one battery in the package, if you need additional flight batteries you have to buy them separately, but the prices are limited, they are not too expensive.

The battery system itself is based on 3S, this is worth looking into if you want to buy another battery.

Drone design and construction

We were very impressed with the design of the Yuneec Mantis G. The design itself is a bit like a DJI Mavic. For some reason, in the past few months, models have appeared again and again that somewhat resemble the flagship of the DJI market leader.

The Yuneec drone can be easily folded and deployed again. Normal dimensions – 250 x 195 x 60 mm, folded – 171 x 97 x 60 mm. This is the perfect size for a drone pilot because because of its compact size, it can be carried anywhere.

Yuneec Mantis G drone flight characteristics and speed values

We were very impressed with the performance of this drone. Even in gusts of wind, the model stands as if nailed in the air and is almost impossible to disturb. The drone hovers so steadily without drifting that it can also be maneuvered in tight spaces or alleys without any problems.

Maximum ascent speed is 4 meters per second in sport mode. In addition, in this mode, the model manages to descend at a speed of 3 meters per second and develop a speed of up to 20 m / s, which corresponds to approximately 72 kilometers per hour.

However, the speed values โ€‹โ€‹vary greatly depending on the flight mode.

Otherwise, the model can move very quickly through the air. The drone responds immediately to control commands and immediately changes direction if you control it appropriately.

Yuneec Mantis G drone tuning modes and formats

Since this quadcopter has such a wide range of flight modes, we would like to summarize them for you in a brief overview.

Voice Command Control

Advanced voice control makes it especially comfortable to control the drone, you just need to communicate with the model and speak the commands loud and clear.

A simple command to launch the model is, for example, “Wake up the Praying Mantis – take off!” And the little drone w
ill turn on and take off.The ingenious feature of the Yuneec Mantis voice control is that it understands different languages, including German, English and French. You can, for example, start videos or take photos using only voice commands. More information about this and about the extended commands can be found in the operating instructions included in the scope of delivery.

Modern waypoint control

With the Yuneec Mantis G drone, Yuneec has launched an enhanced waypoint function. All you have to do is show the model where it should fly using a map in the app. The model then flies along the planned route. Bogomolov will definitely be visible on the map. If you lose your model, the location will also be recorded.

The route that the Mantis drone will fly from Junek is planned from point to point. This means that the quadcopter can always fly straight and not turn in turns. If you want to fly in curves or circles, other flight modes will suit you.

Return to home mode

As with any modern quadcopter, there is of course the option to return to Home Mode. This means that the G Mantis drone will automatically return to the original location from which you took off, provided that you gave the order in advance.

Thanks to the modern GPS and GLONASS satellite system, which the Yuneec Mantis G drone possesses, the model can save the starting point and return to it at the touch of a button.
